Are Bali Weddings Legal in Russia?
The honest answer for Russian couples: recognised automatically under the Family Code.

Short version, so you can relax: Yes. Under the Family Code, Russia recognises a marriage lawfully concluded in Indonesia as valid, with no re-registration, provided there is no legal impediment.
Most couples reading this are a mix: one of you Russian and the other Indonesian, though it reads the same if you are both Russian. Being legally married is a separate thing from the ceremony, and it is what matters when Russia has to treat you as a married couple, for a spouse visa, a name change or family paperwork. Here is how it works, in plain terms. Is your Bali marriage recognised in Russia?
Yes. Under the Family Code, Russia recognises a marriage lawfully concluded in Indonesia as valid, with no re-registration, provided there is no legal impediment. A marriage becomes legal in Indonesia once the religious ceremony is performed and recorded with the civil registry, and your Indonesian marriage certificate is the proof you carry home.
After the wedding: recognised automatically
No fresh ceremony or ZAGS registration is needed for the marriage to be valid. Some couples choose to have it entered in the Russian civil registry for their own records, but that is optional. Russia does not recognise same-sex marriage.
Apostille and translation
Both countries are in the Apostille Convention, so your certificate needs an Indonesian apostille and a notarised Russian translation. Arrange the apostille in Indonesia before you leave. An apostille is a standard international certification of a public document, and since Indonesia joined the Apostille Convention in 2022 its authorities can issue one on your marriage certificate.
