Are Bali Weddings Legal in Malaysia?

You re-register at a Malaysian mission abroad or at JPN, the National Registration Department, in Malaysia, usually in person. Missing the six months brings a late fine. A Muslim marriage follows a separate Syariah registration path.

Apostille and translation

Malaysia is not in the Apostille Convention, so instead of an apostille your Indonesian certificate needs consular legalisation, along with a certified translation into Malay or English. An apostille is a standard international certification of a public document, and since Indonesia joined the Apostille Convention in 2022 its authorities can issue one on your marriage certificate.
